Express your individuality with a Commodore

whether the weather is here

Looks like the Jeeps are back in Trademe. There haven't been any for a while, which I took to be a sign of the bad weather we've been having lately.

No, let me do the thinking for you

Here's a curious article in the computerworld.  It seems to be suggesting that it's a positive thing that Auckland is closing in on Shanghai, Bangalore, Manila and New Delhi.  Don't set your sights too high now will you.

there must be an alternative

I was doing my family IT helpdesk role over the weekend and was struck again by how slow Vista is.  The machine in question was almost identical to the one I use at work, but agonisingly slow.  There's no explanation for why - things just take a very long time.  I would like to be able to offer the family member in question an alternative, but she wouldn't get Linux and can't afford a Mac.  Now that XP is not available, she just has to be a loser for this hardware cycle, and hope for better luck with the next version in 2010.

Ironically enough, Intel has not switched to Vista because of the hardware requirements.  Double irony for a Monday - the second one is on the house.

Bill has the power

A curious thing has happened to my power bill over the last few months.  The power company claims that I used 1MWh during May and 0.4MWh during June.  The only difference I can see in my behaviour during the two months is that in June I started using the heat pump pretty much every night to keep the house warm.  So you would have thought that May would be higher than June.  Very weird.  All of the bills were based on 'actual' meter readings, and the current reading is a few kWh over the last one they did a few days ago.

Hope springs eternal

The line that really stands out for me in this article is:

...said the Florence-based architect, who has never built a sky-scraper before.

Volvo drivers

Abraham Gniwosch - you're my hero.  I agree with you - that was not dangerous driving.
